Over 150 Western Region Academy of Sport athletes and coaches recently attended the 2022 Athlete Orientation.
The event held over the second weekend of November saw the Basketball, Golf, Hockey, Lone Star, Para Sports and Triathlon programs commence.
On Saturday November 13th, the athletes participated in a range of activities including team meetings, education sessions, and running technique sessions.
Fitness, skills, and movement screening testing were conducted with the help of Phyz X and the Charles Sturt University Exercise Science Strength and Conditioning Interns.
WRAS was also fortunate to have Roger Fabri and his coaching staff run through speed and agility training sessions with most of our squads, while Kate Lynch also worked with the Triathlon squad on their running mechanics.
On Sunday 15th November, the Basketball, Hockey and Triathlon squads all held their first team training sessions.
Following the conclusion of the orientation weekend WRAS Executive Officer, Candice Boggs was optimistic about the potential of the 2022 sports programs.
“Orientation weekend is always an action-packed where athletes get to see the bigger picture of WRAS, meeting all the other athletes, coaches and parents from across all the different sports,”
“It is clear in the number of scholarships we offered and through the performance testing for the 2022 programs, there is tremendous talent across the region. We’re looking forward to working with the new intake of athletes and coaches. No doubt we will see plenty of state and national representation from this intake throughout 2022.”
