For the past 19 years, Local Clubs have provided much needed financial assistance to Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) junior athletes.

ClubGRANTS have been allocated to regional athletes to assist with the financial burden that is placed on families when their children become involved in sport. This assistance ensures that athletes selected on their potential do not miss out on the opportunity to participate in the WRAS pathway to higher representation selection because of their family’s financial position.

ClubGRANTS provided by the Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo Clubs has helped over 600 athletes participate in WRAS programs. ClubGRANTS have helped athletes pay their levies, provided uniform and assisted with the cost of attendance at training events and competitions.

Chairman of the ClubGRANTS Committee Norm Mann said Bathurst Panthers and Bathurst RSL who have been two of the major contributors to the financial assistance recognise the need to help the community.

“We have been involved with assisting the academy for almost 20 years, and it is the little things like offering financial help that can ensure athletes and their families stay involved in sport,”

“Every year we see the letters of thanks and it is so good to see that our contributions are going a long way to keeping athletes involved in the region,” It helps bring a smile to their faces and

WRAS Executive Officer Candice Boggs said these contributions offer significant resources to ensuring regional athletes can excel.

“Without this assistance, talented juniors may not have had the opportunity to be part of the WRAS athlete development programs, and especially with the challenges over the past 18 months our athletes and their families have been incredibly thankful for this help,”
