WRAS Rookie Camps kick off in Bathurst

The annual Western Region Academy of Sport Rookie Camps kick off tonight (Friday 1 July) at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, with basketball being the first sport to showcase their skills.

All athletes and coaches will stay on campus at CSU, Bathurst. The residential camps are run under the guidance of highly accredited coaches, who are assisted by special guest coaches, coaches from the local region, and association/club coaches. The camps provide ‘rookie’ athletes with the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge in a fun learning environment. The camps also act as a pre selection trial for the WRAS 2012 squads.

Dates for all camps are; Basketball: 1-3 July 2011, Golf 3-5 July 2011, Hockey: 3-5 July 2011, Lawn Bowls: 4-5 July 2011 and Netball: 8-10 July 2011.

WRAS Executive Officer Nancy Haslop said “these Rookie Camps are a great development opportunity for western region sports people with some of the state’s best coaches heading up the training sessions. They are also a good way for athletes to become involved with the Academy and develop a better understanding of what WRAS does”.

Nominations to attend the camps have now closed, with over 150 athletes and coaches registered to attend.
