At the WRAS Presentation Evening on Saturday 24 August 2013, Beth Shea was presented with a Life Membership. Beth joins Len Graff, Norm Mann, Peter Cole, John Rodis and as the 5th Life Member of the Academy.
Life Membership can be awarded after 5 years of service. Beth has dedicated a total of 29 years, in a variety of roles, to the Academy. Beth was employed as Program Manager (1999-2004), a Board Member (2004-present), a hockey coach (1996-present) and a parent of twin boys in the hockey squad, Gerry and Louis.
Beth has dedicated her life to sport, in particular hockey. She represented NSW from 1974 to 1992 (every year, consecutively!) and was in the Australian U16 team in 1976. She umpired a Australian Open Women’s tour of South Africa and managed the Australian Women’s Hockey team (Gold Medal winners) in the 1994 Women’s Hockey World Cup. Beth has been a coach and selector for NSW squads since 1988 and has been an coach, assistant coach and co-ordinator for the WRAS hockey squad since 1996. Beth is currently employed by the Australian Sports Commission.
Beth was presented with a vase and a small badge by the Hon. Graham Annesley, Minister for Sport and Recreation. This is a very small token for many years of valuable work for WRAS. Congratulation Beth!
